Johnny McCabe awarded Cuchulainn Cycling Club Sports Person of the Year 2024
21 Mar by PRO CuChulainn Cycling
Catching up with a cycling world champion can be difficult at the best of times and it was only recently that Johnny McCabe was finally awarded Cuchulainn Cycling Club Sports Person of the Year 2024 by Club Chairman Francis Lafferty, having succeeded in separating him from his bike in Strandfield for a short period.
Johnny was a unanimous choice for the award and speaking after the impromptu presentation he said, “It is indeed a great pleasure, not alone to be nominated but to actually receive Club Person of the Year. Wow, I am honoured having received the wonderful statue of Oliver Shepard’s sculpture of the death of Cú Chulainn from Francis (Lafferty) and Pat (O’Shaugnessy) earlier in the year, for my achievement at the World Masters in Hamburg, and now this.
It is a wonderful club to be part of and of which I have had the pleasure for many many years now, and a few more to come hopefully.
From the many cycle groups and disciplines within, from Rás medalists to Sunday social coffee spins. As I said before, it’s all about pinning the number on your jersey and ‘just keep moving’ !!
Marcaíocht ar do rothar, a cailíní agus buachaillí …..go raibh mile maith agat.”
Congratulations from all in the club.
