Further Safety Info for Tour of Louth.....
1. **Helmet Safety**: Always wear a properly fitted helmet. It's your best defence against head injuries.
2. **Road Awareness**: Stay alert and be aware of your surroundings at all times. Watch for vehicles, pedestrians, other cyclists, potholes and road furniture.
3. **Ride Predictably**: Signal your intentions clearly using hand signals & call outs, and obey the “rules of the road”. Predictable riding helps drivers and fellow cyclists anticipate your movements.
4. **Stay Visible**: Wear brightly coloured or reflective clothing, especially in low light conditions. Consider front and rear lights should visibility is reduced.
5. **Keep Your Distance**: Maintain a safe distance from other cyclists and vehicles. Allow plenty of space when passing, always do so on the outside and only after checking it’s safe to do so.
6. **Communication**: Use verbal cues, such as calling out "passing on your outside," to communicate with other cyclists.
7. **Stay Hydrated and Energised**: Bring enough water and snacks to stay hydrated and fuelled throughout the ride. There are a couple of food stops on the route at Tallanstown on the 50km route and the Long Women's Grave on the 112km route.
8. **Be Prepared for Emergencies**: Carry a basic toolkit, of a pump, tyre levers & spare tubes. Although we have mechanical support on the roads, you may have a wait if they are elsewhere on the course. Knowing how to perform basic bike maintenance is a good idea.
9. **Follow Event Guidelines**: Familiarise yourself with the event rules and guidelines provided by organisers. Respect the instructions of event staff and marshal volunteers.
10. **Emergency Contacts**: Carry identification and have emergency contact information easily accessible in case of an accident or medical emergency. Our Wristbands will provide you with our Chief Marshal’s phone number and the eircode for DKiT Sport, our event HQ.
11. **Stay Together**: Stick with your group and ride at a pace that everyone is comfortable with. Don't leave any of your friends behind. Make “Out together & home together”, your motto. It’s a Sportif, not a race.
12. **Weather Awareness**: Check the weather forecast before the ride and be prepared for changing conditions. Adjust your clothing and pace accordingly. Remember, safety is everyone's responsibility. Don’t forget the SUNSCREEN!!!
By following these guidelines and staying vigilant, we can all enjoy a safe and enjoyable cycling experience on open roads, that is the ToL.
PS
**Toilets**. Toilets are available at both food stops, at our DKiT Sport HQ and at Niall Clarkes Filling Station between the Ballymac Roundabout and the Ballymascanlon Hotel.
